At the far end of the town beach in Madison, a Connecticut Shoreline town, there is "boat beach" as the kids called it. A parking lot of small kayaks and day-sailers and a launch area, with a small sandy beach next to it. On a hot, humid day, I found a shady, quiet spot away from the screaming toddlers and music-playing teens at the other end of the beach.
