I started with a watercolor painting of this view a couple of years ago, and decided to return for an oil painting. Unfortunately, the location proved to be very unpleasant in the mid-afternoon due to the intense amount of traffic: drivers honked their horns incessantly and the exhaust fumes made me dizzy! So, after a couple of sessions, I decided to finish it in my studio, which turned out to be useful for fine-tuning the light and shadows of the interesting architectural elements, and the bright yellows of the traffic signals. I learned that this mansion is a landmarked building in the historic district of Park Slope, Brooklyn. It certainly has a lot of character!
