February 2011 Newsletter

Already I may have derailed my New Year's resolution to simplify and find balance: am trying some new things hoping they will be fun and satisfying. Can we have it all?! We shall see.

Sending you warm wishes,
Ella

Landscape Re-Imagined
Purume Gallery | NYC
March 2 - April 29
Reception: 4/6, 6-8 pm

A group exhibition of artwork inspired by or evocative of landscape. A couple of my larger paintings will be included. More info at www.purumegallery.com.

New Paintings
This winter's many snowstorms kept me inspired as I painted, Snowy Union Street. Hard to believe we had this much snow.
As a break from the larger paintings, I painted four small watercolors of people playing in the snow. Visit Works on Paper for details.
In between snow scenes, I worked on a fall view of an empty lot near my studio. Late afternoon light striking the buildings and making the weeds glow made the usually boring lot quite gorgeous. More here.
While re-organizing my studio, I came across Studio in Vermont, a painting that I made at the Vermont Studio Center in 2006. I reworked it to clarify the light which seemed lifeless before.
Gallery News
440 Gallery
I recently joined 440 Gallery, an artists' collective in Brooklyn. A solo show in 2012, but I'll always have pieces in the members' back area, and I can leave work there for you, too.
