I set up my easel to paint this view - the closest I got to a vineyard (I know, I need to go back to paint actual vineyards!) - at one of the gates that pierce the wall surrounding Montepulciano, Porta Delle Farine (translated means Gate of the Flours?). The yellow ocher villa in the foreground houses a winemaker. I liked how it seems to be surveying the lush landscape below, and the bulbous mountain in the distance was a curvy counterpoint to the angles of the building.
