I started this one in Monte Castello di Vibio on an exhaustingly hot afternoon. The title refers to actual white roads that crisscross the countryside in Italy; they are not paved with asphalt, but with a fine white gravel and are used mostly by locals accessing farms and vineyards. Later back at my studio, I finished the complicated patterns and used glaze layers to push the far hills into the distance. The patchwork of farms gives the Umbrian landscape a human scale.
