Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea Gallery
Opening Reception: Saturday, August 3, 12-4 PM
Artist Reception + Interior Design Talk (see separate event description): October 22, 6-9 PM
Borrowed from the famous George Gershwin tune, ‘S Wonderful, the title of this show expresses how I feel about the prosaic street scenes of everyday Brooklyn. This exhibit of mostly small, 12”x16” paintings showcases the Brooklyn neighborhoods and streets that I pass by on a regular basis. About half were painted on-site with a mobile easel and the other half I developed in my studio from photos I had taken, images saved - like a squirrel - for rainy and cold days.
Here are a few examples:
Many thanks to Johnny Thornton, Program Director of Arts Gowanus our local artist advocacy non-profit, for making this show happen as part of their mission to involve the community in supporting local artists. Find out more about Arts Gowanus at their website. AND, Johnny helped me install the exhibit. That’s support in the literal sense of the word!
And, of course, this exhibit would not be possible without the generous hospitality of Kingsley Sosoo, proprietor of Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, a new and welcoming Park Slope cafe where you can pause to enjoy a beverage and snack. Part of their mission is to engage with the local community. Find out a little more on the Bklyner website.
The installation looks like this:
