After a 19-year hiatus from art making, I realized my dream of studying art in Italy during the summer of 2001. During an all too short 3-week workshop I discovered plein air landscape painting and was reminded how much I loved drawing from life.  Then, after a year and a half of drawing and painting on weekends, in Spring 2003 I made a full-time commitment to artwork.

These past years have been an extraordinary journey and gift. I have maintained a studio in the Gowanus neighborhood in Brooklyn since 2002. Having this space enables me to strive constantly to grow and develop as an artist. Without a degree in art, in some ways I may have ended up freer to pursue what interests me without worrying about trends in the “art world.” I began to receive recognition very soon after I seriously launched into my art career. Not only did I sell paintings right away, but I was awarded a month-long fellowship residency at the Vermont Studio Center and was included in the book “100 New York Painters” (C.M. Dantzic, Schiller Books) in 2006. In addition to a steady schedule of exhibitions, I have participated in 17 consecutive annual Gowanus Open Studio weekends. My paintings are in private collections in the USA, as well as Hong Kong, Italy, France, and Austria, as well as in the collections of Brooks Brothers, Inc., the NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City, and the Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. In 2014, three of my paintings were selected by the Arts in Embassies program of the US State Department to be loaned to the US Embassy in Geneva for four years.

In my constant search to develop and be a part of a community of artists, I have been actively involved with various arts organizations, including helping to manage a cooperative gallery, volunteering with Arts Gowanus (a nonprofit), and have curated and organized several art exhibitions. Given my prior life experiences I find myself more open-minded about how and where to show my work. Some might say that I take a more democratic and inclusive, a less elitist approach, which I intend to continue.
