I had been thinking about painting this since I moved into the building in 2021. The open door in the alleyway belongs to my studio! I left out the dangling wires and cables that adorn the lower part of the building to focus on the architectural elements: tall windows reflecting the sky, the crumbling facade that reveals the brickwork underneath, the rusting and decaying materials of the bridges between my building and the one next door. And the wild plants sprouting wherever there is a crack and a little bit of soil add Mother Nature’s tenacity to the scene. All these things offered interesting color combinations, textures to convey; and the sky with clouds and the light and shadows made interesting shapes of their own.
