Foggy and Flaming in Gowanus

Oil on canvas on archival panel

A quintessential view of a main avenue that is the boundary between the Gowanus and Park Slope neighborhoods in Brooklyn, NY: two shopfronts with colorful awnings and equally colorful business names at the base of a brownstone building, a subway entrance, garbage bins and a couple of construction workers on break. At first, I was going to keep the painting’s colors and shapes more simplified, but I quickly realized that it was all the details that really bring life to this scene. Yes, even the bits of garbage left strewn on the sidewalk!

The painting in progress!
