As residential development proceeds at an unbelievable rate all around this site, I had to paint this view before it changed completely. The pale green building houses the controls for the mechanics that open and close Union Street Bridge, whose bright blue railings add a cheerful touch. The graffiti on the wall adjacent reflects the gritty feel of the former industrial neighborhood, which will soon give way to slick high rises and landscaped esplanades along the putrid Canal. (Even with the ongoing Superfund dredging, the raw sewage that gets dumped into the Canal with every big rainstorm makes the Canal pretty disgusting!)
