About Me

After a 19-year hiatus from art making, I realized my dream of studying art in Italy during the summer of 2001. During an all too short 3-week workshop I discovered plein air landscape painting and was reminded how much I loved drawing from life.  Then, after a year and a half of drawing and painting on weekends, in Spring 2003 I made a full-time commitment to artwork.

These past years have been an extraordinary journey and gift. I have maintained a studio in the Gowanus neighborhood in Brooklyn since 2002. Having this space enables me to grow and develop as an artist. Without a degree in art, in some ways I may have ended up freer to pursue what interests me without worrying about trends in the “art world.”

I began to receive positive feedback very soon after I started down my art path. Not only did I sell paintings right away, but I was awarded a month-long fellowship residency at the Vermont Studio Center and was included in the book 100 New York Painters (C.M. Dantzic, Schiller Books) in 2006. I took these as signs to continue whole-heartedly.

Since then, in addition to a steady schedule of exhibitions, I have participated in almost every annual Gowanus Open Studio event since 2002. My paintings are in private collections in the USA, as well as Switzerland, Italy, France, and Austria, as well as in the collections of Brooks Brothers, Inc., the NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City, and the Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. In 2014, three of my paintings were selected by the Arts in Embassies program of the US State Department and were loaned to the US Embassy in Geneva for four years.

In my constant desire to contribute to and be a part of a community of artists, I have been actively involved with various arts organizations. I have volunteered extensively for Arts Gowanus (a nonprofit), regularly donate paintings to Brooklyn Arts Council and Arts Gowanus fundraising events, have curated and organized several group exhibitions, and for a few years helped to manage a local cooperative gallery.

Given my prior life experiences I find myself more open-minded about how and where to show my work. Some might say that I prefer a more broadly inclusive and welcoming approach, which I intend to continue.
