I decided to go ahead and create an alternative auction for one of the paintings rejected by the Salmagundi Club (see entry below) on eBay. The auction for "Drizzly Morning Downtown" will start this Thursday, March 19, at noon EST, and end on Sunday, March 22, at noon EST. The starting bid is $250 just as it would have been at the Salmagundi. If this goes well, I may try another. Looks like I may be starting my own "Salon des Refusés"!
I've finished this painting, "Sledding Home in Prospect Park" and am starting another snowy scene in Prospect Park painting, which I'll add to "Works in Progress" later. Painting snow was something I've been wanting to do for a long time and I thought it was going to be kind a fight, in the way I took on painting water as a challenge. But, it turned out to be a more enjoyable learning experience. Now, I'm packing up for a trip out West and am taking my new pochade box with me. I can't wait to try it out. Somehow I never got around to testing it out at home, so we'll see how it works on the road! Hoping to catch some nice snowy mountain scenes in the next couple of weeks. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!
I finally heard from the collector in Klagenfurt, Austria, that their painting made the trip in one piece. Whew! It's always nerve-wracking for me until I know a shipped painting has arrived safely. This lucky painting's new home is in a lakefront house. A long story as to how an Austrian came to buy one of my paintings. It involves my husband who likes to practice speaking German, a high-profile murder trial in Manhattan, and an Austrian judge on vacation with her friends.
